I Stopped Buying Skincare for 30 Days — Here’s What I Used Instead

For a long time, I wanted to switch to more natural skincare — but every time I tried, I felt overwhelmed.

Natural products were expensive.
Ingredient lists were long and confusing.
And I wasn’t even sure if they were actually better.

So I decided to try something simple.

For 30 days, I stopped buying skincare entirely and used only what I already had at home.

Why I Stopped Buying Skincare

I didn’t stop because I wanted to be extreme.

I stopped because I was tired of:

  • Paying high prices for “natural” products
  • Not recognizing half the ingredients
  • Owning too many half-used bottles

I wanted something simpler, cheaper, and more intentional.

What I Used Instead

Instead of store-bought products, I relied on a few basic ingredients:

That was it.

With just those ingredients, I covered my face, body, lips, hands, and feet.

My Simple Daily Routine

Here’s what a typical day looked like:

Morning

  • Olive oil or a simple homemade face cream
  • Olive oil on damp skin after showering

Evening

  • Oil cleansing with olive oil
  • A thicker balm on dry areas

Weekly

  • Foot soaks with Epsom salt
  • Gentle body scrub

Nothing fancy. Nothing complicated.

What Surprised Me Most

I expected my skin to feel greasy or uncomfortable.

Instead, it felt:

  • Calmer
  • More balanced
  • Less reactive

I also realized how little I actually need.

Is Homemade Skincare Right for Everyone?

Homemade skincare doesn’t have to replace everything.

But it can:

  • Reduce how much you buy
  • Help you understand ingredients better
  • Save money over time

You don’t need to commit fully — even replacing one product helps.
